Lab: Makerspaces – Zine

During our visit to the Art Hive today, we were asked to make a Zine on whatever made us feel happy, whatever we were passionate about. A Zine is essentially a small magazine; magazines are not always very inclusive since they are typically directed towards one specific audience and the content is not relevant to all nor is it written by a wide range of people.

Activity: Concept Mapping

In class, we were asked to create a concept map (a tree-like model rather than the radial model of a mind map) of technology in the classroom.  Mine is posted below, however this is by no means a final version of my thoughts on technology in the classroom as my view is constantly evolving.  Note that this is a very basic concept map and my complete thoughts about this are written on the About Me page. 

Activity: Typhoon

After a very brief introduction to Prezi, the class participated in a game called “Typhoon” in which the class was split up into two teams.  Each team took turns asking questions (which were presented on Prezi with their answers) and choosing a square from the board which awarded them a certain number of points.  In addition to the positive and negative points, some of the 16 squares had a “T” for Typhoon (lose all your points) and ßà (switch points with the other team).

Class Activity: TPACK – Putting it all together

Our breakdown of how we would apply the TPACK model to math.

Last week, we discussed the content aspect of the TPACK model by creating a mind map of the content we cover in high school math classes. As a follow up to that activity and to conclude our lesson on open source vs. proprietary software, we were asked to form groups to once again discuss TPACK, but as a whole this time around.
